Bead from Lavacroon, Orphir

Drum-shaped polychrome bead of red and yellow colours. This bead is of Saxon origin and dates around 545-600 CE. Beads could be widely transported and traded. Beads were a status symbol and valued for their appearance and distant origins. Beads could be in circulation for some time and some may have become heirlooms.
