King piece from a set of gaming pieces from the boat burial at Scar, Sanday

Twenty-two gaming pieces were buried with the male at Scar. The gaming pieces were used in the game Hnefatafl (‘King’s Table’) – a subtle game of attack and defence for two people. The gaming pieces were buried in a leather or cloth pouch. The ‘king’ piece is identified by an iron pin.
